Y8 visit to Scarborough Engineering Week

Scarborough Engineering Week event on 11 October at The Spa Complex, Scarborough

We are living in a world that is changing fast, preparing young people for jobs that do not exist yet, to use technology not yet invented and to solve problems we do not even know yet.  With this in mind, it is more important than ever to us to provide our learners with skills that will help them to progress along their chosen pathway.

The above event, which will take place at The Spa Complex in Scarborough, supports National Engineering Week and will provide an opportunity for our students to access an array of practical, hands-on activities and see some amazing specialist equipment in action.  Students will explore how Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects make a difference in the real world. It will inspire students to consider the exciting opportunities that studying and working in STEM subjects can open up to them. This year, we are aiming to encourage all our students to consider a STEM career.

We have been allocated tickets for our Year 8 students to attend this STEM event on Wednesday 11 October.  Students will leave the Scoresby site at approximately 9.50am (after lesson 1) and return to College in time for the start of lesson 6, which begins at 2.40pm. Students will need a packed lunch. If your son/daughter is entitled to a free school meal, please tick the box on the reply slip if you would like a packed lunch to be provided for them. Students should wear their College uniform as normal.

There will be many different activities going on at the same time in the same venue. However, all students will be in groups and accompanied by a member of College staff.  There may be occasions when your son/daughter will be out of the direct sight of a member of College staff. They will, however, have access to staff at designated meeting points and be equipped with staff mobile phone numbers in case of emergencies. This is classed as “remote supervision”.

Please indicate whether you give your consent for photographs to be taken and used on the College website.

I would be grateful if you would please return the reply slip to Reception on the Scoresby Site, as soon as possible, and no later than Monday 2 October 2017.
