Takeover Day is a celebration of children and young people’s contributions to museums, galleries, arts organisations, archives and heritage sites. It’s a day on which they are given meaningful roles, working alongside staff and volunteers to participate in the life of the museum.
Ten students from Year 8 at Caedmon College Whitby are working with the staff and volunteers of Captain Cook Memorial Museum to help run the museum for the day. Working with Mrs Shone-Hatchwell the students have been trained as tour guides and will be taking visitors through the museum and sharing with them the amazing story of Captain Cook’s life from apprentice to Captain.
This afternoon there will be primary students who will be taking part in a treasure hunt and decorating biscuits to show their understanding of the compass.
