This July, five Year 10 students from Caedmon College Whitby, are taking part in an expedition to Iceland. The expedition is organised by a charity called “The British Explorers Society” (Registered Charity Number 802196).
British Explorers is an established, youth development charity which promotes adventurous activity as a means to personal growth. Following the lines of their motto – ‘adventure with purpose’, they organise trips to remote, wilderness settings where the explorers (students) carry out important scientific fieldwork that often contributes to wide-reaching projects.
The expedition itself will be a significant challenge, as students must hike and wild-camp for 3 weeks with no access to modern amenities such as toilets or showers. In addition, the students must
complete 30 hours of “social action/voluntary work” within the community prior to the expedition.
The students must work as a team to raise £7000 pounds for the British Explorers Charity and are working hard in College and in the community to start fundraising.
We would be truly appreciative if organisations would consider a donation towards the students’ fundraising. The sponsorship of this event would go some way to helping the students to reach their target and we would be very grateful if organisations were able to find the resources to support this charitable event.
The students would be happy to feedback to organisations after the event and we would also be happy to publicise their sponsorship by students writing an article to be published on our website.
Please feel free to contact me as the lead teacher for this event should you have any questions or would like to make a donation.
