Be Heard! Focus groups for children and young people with SEND

As you will be aware North Yorkshire County Council has been reviewing education provision for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) aged 0-25 years, and is developing a strategic plan for this provision in the future. We have hosted a number of events for parent/carers, professionals and young people to help us shape the strategic plan.

As part of our ongoing work we have arranged three focus group events for children and young people with SEND. The purpose of the focus groups is for us to meet again with children and young people to update them on the work and to gather more feedback from them. The focus groups are free and will take place as follows:

  • 29 May – Selby Community Centre, Scott Road, Selby YO8 4BL, 10.30am-12.30pm (followed by lunch)
  • 31 May – Scarborough Council Chamber, Town Hall, St Nicholas St, Scarborough YO11 2HG, 10.30am-12.30pm (followed by lunch)
  • 1 June – Harrogate Council Chamber, Civic Centre, St Lukes Avenue, Harrogate HG1 2AE, 10.30am-12.30pm (followed by lunch)

Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

We are keen to invite young people from across North Yorkshire to contribute to these groups and hope you can help us with this. Gathering views of children and young people is essential to the development of the strategic plan.

Please could you talk to your child or young person about these events? If they would like to attend, they can book a place at the following link:- Be Heard! Focus Groups for children and young people (SEND) or go onto Eventbrite and search for Be Heard. Places need to be booked by 23 May at the latest. If you or your child or young person would like more information please contact vip@northyorks.gov.uk.

I do hope your child or young person will be able to attend one of the events.

Yours faithfully
Kathy Peacock
