Swimming Achievements of Students at CCW

Bailey Stamp, Henry Cornforth and Ebony Butler all qualified for the Winter Yorkshire Swimming Championships in September and October.

Bailey qualified for the Senior age group, which was held at towards the end of October in Sheffield at Ponds Forge. He competed in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle, in which he achieved a Personal Best time. Ebony competed at the Junior Yorkshire Championships in early September at the John Charles Centre for Sport. She competed in the 50m Breaststoke. Qualifying for this level of competition is an achievement on its own. Henry also qualified for the Junior Yorkshire Championships.  He qualified for 9 events, but as he was only able to compete on one of the two days due to Swim England North East Regional Training Camp commitments. Henry competed in the following events:

  • 50m Backstroke – Bronze
  • 50m Breaststroke –  Sixth
  • 50m Butterfly – Gold
  • 100m Butterfly – Sixth
  • 100m Freestyle – Gold (Henry was the only 12 year-old swimmer to achieve a time under 1 minute, by swimming a 59.86)

Following the Yorkshires, Henry attended the Winter North East Regional Swimming Championships in Sheffield at Ponds Forge in November. He qualified for 10 events, but swam in 9. To qualify for this event is an outstanding achievement. The results for the weekend are as follows:

  • 50m Freestyle – Bronze PB (Sixth in England, Tenth British)
  • 50m Backstroke – Sixth
  • 50m Butterfly – Bronze PB
  • 50m Breastroke – Thirteenth
  • 100m Freestyle – Silver (Fifth in England, Eighth British)
  • 100m Backstroke – Seventh PB
  • 100m Butterfly – Seventh PB
  • 100m Individual Medly – Sixth PB
  • 200m Freestyle – Eighth PB

I think Henry’s results speak for themselves. However, any swimmer attending this level of competition deserves recognition. Whitby Seals are very proud of these three and all our swimmers at all levels.
