‘Kick Off @3’ 7-a-side football tournament

Durham Constabulary are pleased to announce their annual ‘Kick Off @3’ 7-a-side football tournament, which celebrates the regions diversity, by bringing young people together for a full day of football at Durham University, is back again for 2019!

Last year’s event was hugely successful with over 100 young people coming together with local police to play the beautiful game. Our regional winners then went onto represent us successful in the London finale, only just missing out on being crowned Kick-off @ 3 National Champions by one goal, in the finals.

The date for your diary is: Thursday, March 21 2019, 10am–3pm, North East Regional Kick-off @3 tournament, at Durham University’s sports facility, Maiden Castle (DH1 3SE) with support from Durham University, Durham Constabulary, Northumbria Police, North Yorkshire Police and Durham FA.

The event is open to Year 9 players (aged 13-14) focusing upon participation and inclusion. Therefore team members do not have to be the most skilled athletes, and the event will place emphasis upon youth-engagement, before ability. Teams are also encourage to be made up of mixed gender. The event is designed to improve youth and Police relationships across the North East and North Yorkshire.

There will be individual and team recognition on the day, including a tournament fair-play award. With the overall goal of the day being the crowning of a regional champion, that can represent the North East in the finale, hosted later in the academic year (venue TBC). Team admission is £25 with all proceeds going to our nominated charity ‘Isla’s Fight’ supporting Isla Caton, who is currently fighting Neuroblastoma cancer, the same cause as last year.

This should be a fun and engaging day, with attendance from various police support units, as well as representatives from various football organisations (and maybe the odd famous face!)

If you have any further questions about the initiative please do not hesitate to contact your local Police force representative Sgt. Shazad Sadiq Mohamed.Sadiq@durham.pnn.police.uk or the event organiser lynn.preston@durham.ac.uk.
