My Future Starts Here

Year 9

Autumn Term

  • Understanding more about myself: Plotr
  • All Y9 students use Plotr to play a game based on a psychometric test which enables students to discover which careers suit their personality types. Once registered, students will access the game and their own personalised character report with suggestions about potential careers that suit their personality profile
  • GCSE Options: presentations to all students informing and supporting them to consider their GCSE options. Students can also access one-to-one advice and guidance every Thursday lunchtime in Caedmon Room, Scoresby site. Parents are able to discuss these options with the Progression Coordinator at parents’ evenings throughout the term

Spring Term

  • Employment Rights

Summer Term

  • Making Plans for My Future: Uniwise Event
  • Higher Education Fair for all KS3 students and parents (Scoresby site)

All Year

  • KS3 drop in every Tuesday lunchtime in the Learning Centre, Normanby site

Year 10

Spring Term

  • Careers Fair: all Y10 students will visit the Careers Fair: Over 20 local and national employers, training providers and colleges on hand to talk to students and parents about the benefits of apprenticeships, further education and higher education
  • Plotr: all Year 10 students use Plotr to play a game based on a psychometric test which enables students to discover which careers suit their personality types. Once registered, students will access the game and their own personalised character report with suggestions about potential careers that suit their personality profile
  • STEM Young Scientist Programme and engineering/lab technician apprenticeships: Year 10 triple science students will visit TTE to learn more about STEM careers available locally including apprenticeships and sponsored degree programmes
  • Armed Forces Presentations: all the armed forces available during break for students to talk to about possible career options. Individual appointments also available on request
  • Enterprise and Employability Skills: ‘Employ Me’ transition day. Carousel of masterclasses based around enterprise and employability skills
  • Targeted groups of students will visit local Further Education Colleges to explore the range of study options available

All Year

  • KS4 drop in every Tuesday lunchtime in the Learning Centre, Normanby site

Year 11

Autumn Term

  • ‘My Future’ Enrichment Day focusing on CV writing , apprenticeships and planning for future progression
  • National Citizen Service: assembly followed by informal drop-in session in the Learning Centre at break. Students can learn more about the benefits of volunteering and how this will expand their horizons and develop skills that are attractive to employers and Higher Education institutions

Spring Term

  • Post-16 Progression Interviews: a one-to-one interview to discuss career pathways and Post-16 options. Students are fully supported and encouraged to apply for courses at all local FE/sixth form colleges, apprenticeships and training providers. Students are encouraged to explore all options and to aim high in order to achieve their full potential
  • Post-16 Choices: assemblies, PSHCE and CEIAG focused workshops throughout the academic year
  • Assemblies: Scarborough Football Academy, TTE Technical Training, Armed Forces, local entrepreneurs, McCain’s, legal professionals
  • Apprenticeship Awareness Event: a full day programme for all Year 11 students specifying an interest in learning more about apprenticeships including workshops and an Apprenticeship Fair.  Students will be able to speak to current apprentices about their experiences. They will learn how to search for and register for an apprenticeship and work with training providers to develop and improve their interview skills
  • Apprenticeship Fair: over 20 local and national employers, training providers and colleges on hand to talk to students and parents about the benefits of apprenticeships and the application process.
  • Cambridge University Presentation: Cambridge University will visit the College to give a presentation to students about the benefits of applying and information and advice about the application process in general. The purpose of the day is to encourage and inspire students to consider applying to the Oxbridge Universities
  • CV workshops at lunchtime in the Learning Centre every Tuesday lunchtime

All Year
